WIP Update

2 months ago I posted what's on the needles, et. al. I also noticed that I haven't posted any updates here for almost a whole month...yeah...I noticed it all month.

So, first the WIP -
  1. The CPH is finished! I still have to find some buttons but that's not a real hindrance to wearing it! And since its freaking HOT today, its moot.
  2. The ruffle top socks are still on the needles...I'm working on the gusset decreases and it sort of looks doubtful that I'll be done by end of the Olympics on Sunday!
  3. I STILL have 4 mice to felt. I STILL want to knit about 8 more and felt them all at once.
  4. I HAD some green Coopworth fiber but now its yarn. I haven't measured the WPI but it appears to be DK weight.
  5. I finished a Pouch Bag in mostly EuroFlax Limestone and some other Flax-Merino blend that I had to get for the handles as one skein WASN'T enough. I keep this in my purse anduse this ALL the time when I'm shopping or running errands.
  6. I bought 2 more skeins of EuroFlax in complementary colors (Soapstone and Champagne) and I'm about 2/3 finished with a second Pouch Bag.

August Books -

I finished reading The Rainmaker by John Grisham. I've never read any of his books although I really enjoyed some of the movies based on his books. I picked this book up to read when I was on the North Shore at the beginning of the month. It was handy, on the shelf in the townhouse we rented. I had taken Mrs. Dalloway to read but it was making me NUTS trying to cut through Virginia Woolf's "random stream of consciousness" writing style! So I started into The Rainmaker. I must've missed the movie when it came out in the 90s. I was just over at IMDB looking at the cast and I don't see Rudy's friend Booker in the movie. I hate when movies cut out characters like that!

I also finished Clouds of Witness by Dorothy L. Sayers. I just love Lord Peter Wimsey and his droll sense of humor. What an extremely smart lady Dorothy L was! I think that some have been rather critical of her but I enjoy her books nonetheless!

I found a new easy-read, entertaining author - Christopher Moore - and also read A Dirty Job which is his latest book I believe. "At the moment when his wife Rachel unexpectedly dies in the hospital shortly after the birth of their first child (Sophie), Charlie becomes involved in a new sideline of retrieving the souls of the dying, so as to protect them from the forces of the underworld. "(Wikipedia) If you like fantasy, macabre and humor all wrapped up together, you will enjoy this book.

I'm currently reading Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. I just started it Yesterday and so far I'm enjoying it. I'm not old enough to remember the Great Depression but my Mother used to talk about it. She had to leave school at 15 to help support her family when the market crashed in 1929. I feel like I almost know that period of time...almost. Anyway, I like the main character, Jacob, well enough so far.

As to the North Shore...we stayed on the shore in one of the Lutsen Resort Sea Villas. The weather was perfect! We spent a day on the Gunflint, saw some moose and tons and tons of MN wildflowers! Checked out the fire damage from last year on the Canadian side of the lake and some along the Gunflint. Hiked up Leveaux mtn one day (pant pant) - I'm glad the weather wasn't warmer! I think it was in the mid-70s all the while we were up there. We rented a tandem bike and rode some of the Gitchi-gami trail. That will be awesome when they get all the bits connected!!! And we've decided to NEVER do that tandem thing again. We both apparently have control issues! I've never been up there at this time of the year before, having mostly visited during the dead of winter to ski Lutsen Mtn. I was AMAZED at all the people. :-) Usually all the little shops look deserted when we're up there in the winter. And of course, we went to Papa Charlie's and had the best Bloody Mary's in MN. It was very weird sitting in the bar in sandals though...and not ski boots.

I missed Irish Fair earlier in the month which bummed me out. I hope I don't do that NEXT year. :-(

I suppose I really should upload some photos... I have some awesome shots of the moose we saw on the Gunflint Trail.
